The night before they are to depart, seven of the Jewish women are forced to attend a party given by the Nazis.

One of the selected women, Rachel Steinman, a young mother of a two year old child meets Rudy Reinhardt, an ambitious, dedicated Schutz Staffein SS Officer who will take advantage of her situation by raping her.The following morning Rachel and the other six women are allowed to return in time for the ship to depart. The Jews have know idea if any country will even accept them but they are all grateful to be out of Nazi Germany. The old ship somehow manages to cross the stormy Atlantic ocean and make its way to the port of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.

Rachel and the rest of the Jewish passengers are permitted to disaembark and make there homes in this small, poor country. Here she would give birth to a second son, Bernardo, whom she conceived after the rage by the German SS Officer.In 1947 Rudy Reinhardt, fearful of allied prosecution from war crimes immigrates with his wife and children to the Dominican Republic where over time they become properous cattle and land owners. Thirty years later the two familiies, now both wealthy and successful, meet once again as Rachels third son Diego and Rudys daughter Greta fall deeply in love without knowing their families history.

They only wish to have both parents meet but are unaware of what has occurred between then thirty years before. Through these years Rachel has found love and success as a Spanish radioi personality, while Rudy andhis cold blooded brother Karl continue to remain true to the cause of Hitler and the Nazis. The tory concludes with Rudys long suffereing wife Anna marie realizing what kind of man she has devoted her life too.

Both women meet having remembered there own connection of the past
